My Sunday Morning

Hello Gorgeous,

What did your Sunday morning look like? And no, this post does not cover hangover remedies.

Saturday night prep was a nightmare! Couldn’t find a darn thing as my closet was overflowing with stuff that I never wear and had collected cause I am what you call a HOARDER! Yes I admit it!

MY SUNDAY MORNING

Picture it: Standing in front of my closet, hoping the piles of clothes wouldn’t bury me… ferociously throwing outfits, shoes etc onto a not so neat mountain on my bed. Even my dog was worried! It was time to get rid of the “excess baggage” 😉

I’m sure closet space is a problem for every fashionista, and now we have to make way for year-end gifts that we are about to give ourselves 😉  So, chop-chop… I know we want to hold on to everything, but this is a necessary evil.

DITCH

KEEP
Wedge heeled boots.
TRUTH:  I am storing these, not ditching them entirely.		 Block heeled boots and shoes.
Platform pumps, OUT YOU GO! Pointy toe pumps.
Wedge sneakers..what were we thinking ? Regular sneakers before we were invaded.
Clumpy mascara… don’t try and save it… you can’t! Mascara that is brand new.
Undergarments that have lost its stretch or shape. Well fitted like a glove undergarments.
The black smokey eye and nude lip…. ENOUGH ALREADY! Colorful makeup.
Try doing a smokey eye but with different colored eye shadows. The runway was full of this trend.
Jeans that have an entire leg missing. High-waisted straight leg jeans.
Pajama bottoms as pants… I’M OVER IT! Velvet pants, Rompers and jumpsuits.
Boring micro mini form fitting dresses. Pretty middy and maxi dresses.
Single eyeshadow pots..who has the space for that? Palettes… easy to find and travel with.
Jumbo totes… the “Hold all I can’t find anything” ones. Fancy clutches… even the oversized ones.
Jewellery that you haven’t worn in the past year…you never will… LET THEM GO. Fringe earrings
I can’t breathe dresses and a girls gotta eat! Flowy fabrics
Depressing colors 😦 Bright colors 🙂
Skin products with too many ingredients. Skin products with less than 5 ingredients.
Lipsticks that dry my lips out. Liquid matte lipsticks?? Not for me anymore. Moisturizing lip products
Stick straight hair…YAWN!.. bye bye straightening iron. Beachy waves… Hello curling wand!
Concealer with a thick consistency no matter how full the coverage. Blendable Concealers. Unless you’re a 20-something woman… the thicker ones will crease. Accept it.

 

Phew!  After a few hours… there was SPACE!  My closet looks like Santa’s elves have reorganized it and made space for my new STUFF 😉

The Commandments

Hello Gorgeous,

Let me start off by saying that I’m not trying to play God here, but since God certainly doesn’t have the time to dispense Fashion and Beauty advice, I’m at your service to provide you with  my version of the commandments. Yes! smarty pants, I am aware that there are supposed to be only 10 …but I’m onto something here so bear with me 😉

  1. Thou shalt slip on a pair of pants/jeans under thy dresses because we like to shake things up a bit.
  2. Thou shalt learn the art of layering (clothing and skin products) even if thou lives in tropical humid climate (It can be done!).
  3. Thou shalt wear perfect fitting undergarments to get her clothes to fit well and to prevent  unsightly bulges (even if you are the only one looking at them).
  4. Thou shalt most definitely wear white after Labor Day (even head to toe). We fashionistas have no rules… we MAKE the rules.  
  5. Thou shalt NOT covet thy BFF’S handbag!  Just cause! You gotta love it for the right reasons and not just because she has it… 😉
  6. Thou shalt double cleanse after using a makeup remover before going to bed… always. Squeaky clean gorgeous. Squeaky clean.
  7. Thou shalt embrace retinol because we would all love to slow down the aging process a tad bit.
  8. Thou shalt give as much love to her neck as thou does to her face. Any excess product leftover from your face? Massage it all over your neck and décolleté… don’t waste.
  9. Thou shalt not attempt at using her foundation or any makeup with her fingers as bacteria  spreads, use a beauty blender instead(and clean that little tear drop like sponge regularly). Pretty please.
  10. Thou shalt always use a setting spray after makeup before she heads out the door to prevent her makeup from moving or melting off her face.
  11. Thou shalt get herself a signature scent, its time. Mine is… LOL… NO WAY GORGEOUS (this one goes to my grave amongst many other things).
  12. Thou shall not give into every “Trend”… because..wait for it.. ..ANNA WINTOUR hates the word !!! So THAT’S THAT.
  13. Thou shalt develop her own style over time, because why would you want to dress like someone else anyway? 
  14. Thou shall not obsess over social media images (of women) that have been through at least ten editing apps(yup!). It OK to aspire to look like them as long as you know that they don’t look like their images either! Real women are….look in the mirror Gorgeous !!

STICK TO MY LIST

Hello Gorgeous,

Welcome back from summer vacation. I missed you! And YES, I’ve been MIA but “don’t be mad, get glad (that I’m back 😉 )”… FINE! I stole that line from a commercial... don’t judge 🙂

No wasting time, let’s get right into FALL MUST HAVES

I have tons of information, so pay attention. The following are not in order of priority so be patient and keep reading:

  1. Bell sleeve blouses – Why don’t I have one of these? Odd. Definitely getting one. Fine two. We are not doing the flowy bohemian kind right now, the structured silhouette is more current.
  2. Exposed zippers – I’m excited about this one. They look great on jeans, pants, skirts and also on sporty neon active wear.  
  3. Hoop earrings – Never been a big hoop person myself, but designers have been churning some pretty funky statement hoops. This might be the month I convert ….we’ll see.
  4. Fly away – Feathers are everywhere… on jackets, pant hems, blouses and even head gear (the last one is a tad much for me I must admit).
  5. Headbands and Hats – YES I’m IN. I’m pretty sure my daughter will veto them but I’m going to ROCK THEM anyway.  
  6. The Glossier Super Pack  – Three little bottles of magic. If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen me rave about these serums. Together, they are invincible. Super Pure (Zinc and Vitamin B3), Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. Tried and tested by yours truly, and my skin looks and feels better than it ever has. Trust me blindly and get the pack. Thank me later!
  7. Ouai wave spray and memory mist – Both these products live up to their claim. One remembers your style and holds it in place till your next wash, and the other gives you the most beautiful beachy waves. Use both sparingly though otherwise you run the risk of super greasy hair. They also smell like heaven in a bottle. BONUS!
  8. PAT MCGRATH lipsticks – Oh! I want these so bad but the colors I want, which are most of them, are out of stock cause…OBVIOUSLY. She is a genius; and if your finger is not on the Add-to-cart button the minute her products come out (I’m exaggerating), you can forget about ever seeing them. Who is Pat McGrath? Tsk tsk…Google her before you read the next line..PLEASE!  The struggle to get my hands on these beauties is real!
  9. Glam – Gold, silver, sparkle, fringe. Think…THE GREAT GATSBY.  Now we are speaking my language. I’m all about the glitter Gorgeous!
  10. Red ankle-length boots (Red everything actually) – The color of the season. These boots have made the top trend for fall. Really? Red boots? Let’s not judge too hastily though. A little on the fence about this one but you know me … I’m getting a pair anyway. Will keep you posted on my thoughts after I have worn them few times with a few different ensembles.   11. Combat boots –  Don’t fight me on this one… no pun intended 😉  I love looking like a BADASS.
  12. Slouchy boots – I’m thinking TAN!.. WHAT SAY YOU?

OK… I’m clearly late to some of these parties… aka headbands… but I’ll catch up, you know I will. I always do 😉

“You dazzling Diva…Yes you! You just know how to steal the show don’t you?”

Tell me you don’t like to turn heads when you make an entrance at that party! If you don’t then skip this post 😉 I don’t want you to blend in when you were clearly born to stand out.

I know we all say we dress for ourselves, but come on..we know better don’t we? Let’s be honest, we gals dress for each other and have a great time doing so (I certainly do).

So, now that we have cleared that up let’s get down to what you can do to stand out in a crowd at that party/event.

Let’s turn some heads shall we?

  1. Keep your skin dewy and fresh, luminosity is the key. So, by all means mask those pesky acne scars with concealer but try and keep your skin as glowy as you possibly can and fake the I’ve been eating my veggies and been drinking copious amounts of coconut water.
  2. Go Red. One simple swipe of red lipstick and boom, you’re the bell of the ball… 🙂 Well not quite that easy, but you get where I’m going with this. Red = confidence + get noticed.  
  3. Go head to toe monochrome. Very few people are comfortable with this look. I, on the other hand love it. And please stop with the black on black. There ARE other colors in the color wheel, I’m almost certain 😉
  4. Showing a little skin? Dab a dollop of illuminator down your legs and shoulders. It’s very sexy.  
  5. Wide legged jeans…trust me… it works..every time. So the next time we see each other in those sexy hip hugging wide legged jeans..I’ll be sure to notice you 😉
  6. Keep those tresses shiny …I hope you have your hairdresser’s number handy. Get those ends trimmed religiously and work in some oil to give it a little shine cause isn’t that the objective here? To shine? Moving on….
  7. Get adventurous with your handbag. A little print here and a little print there. NO! it most definitely does not have to be Chanel or the likes of it gorgeous…I cannot stress this enough.  Sporting the latest handbag will not get you noticed. Your bag might, but not you 😉 While it’s great to throw that brand new high end designer bag over your shoulder, it is not a prerequisite. You hate me yet?.. I say it like it is..that’s why you keep coming back for more and I’m so glad you do 🙂
  8. Smile, it’s your best accessory and it doesn’t cost you a dime!

Bonjour Gorgeous,

The French woman… ooh la la!

Let’s take a minute here. Is it her accent, her style, her general demeanor? We hear about Parisian chic all the time.The French do it this way and the French do it that way? What is this way exactly? What does she do so differently from the rest of us?

Sit at a riverside cafe, wearing your Chanel sunnies and sip a glass of bordeaux but it will never be the same.You may even may pay homage to the French fashion gods Hermès, Chanel, Dior and YSL (we don’t have all day to go down the list), but my point being that the French woman has a certain je ne sais quoi about her that’s very elusive to capture. It’s a combination of attitude and style. The style I can help you with, but the attitude will take years of consuming French wine and cheese and maybe LIVING THERE? 😉

So what ARE the French fashionistas doing different?

 A Buttoned-down, a pair of high-waisted jeans, a navy blazer with gold buttons(I know its specific), a beautiful silk scarf worn in a way that only a French woman can, fantastic mules, red lips, messy waves, her teeny tiny bag and cat eye sunglasses. And, she smells divine..Of course!

Time to deconstruct:

  1. She loves her scarves, not that this one is news to you..EVERYONE knows that. Want to learn a million different ways to tie a scarf, ask her.
  2. She doesn’t go overboard with her lipstick. Her lips look more stained.. like she’s just been kissed 🙂 …so apply, rub with your finger and then purse your lips on tissue so it looks more natural.
  3. She loves her high waisted jeans, striped tees, buttoned downs and blazers!
  4. Her deliberate messy bed hair is so signature. It’s never quite that perfect and that’s what makes it so sexy.
  5. She believes less is more with clothing AND makeup.
  6. She is very into her skin care… ever been to  French pharmacy? If not, it’s about time. The routine is simple but fantastic.
  7. French perfume…I need not say a word.  She loves her perfume… you will never find a French woman without her “signature scent”
  8. Sunglasses?… always.
  9. She doesn’t wear 5 inch heels, she believes in comfort above everything else and that’s what makes her so chic.

She is not trying to be overtly sexy, that’s just not who she is. She will never try too hard and cuts straight to the chase in a conversation. For those who know me know that I have THAT ONE down PAT. 🙂

No Gorgeous, I’m not FRENCH but after an evening of wine and cheese with friends she does rub off a little bit ;). OH STOP.. I TRY !…xoxo

Hello Gorgeous,

Calling all fashionistas 📢 Look at you over there… in that Zara top and J.Crew pants, looking as good if not better than the Gucci babe next to you 😉 . Yes Gorgeous! It is indeed possible… believe it. I am living proof (who knew!). This post will let you in on a few shop-till-you-drop websites that you have probably either missed or haven’t even heard of yet.

If you want to stay current with fashion trends (which will pass with the season) but don’t want to drop massive amounts of cash or max out your credit card… then this post is for you. So, take your screenshots right away. If you’re anything like how I used to be, and ShopBop, Revolve Clothing and Zara are your shopping haunts, you now have OPTIONS.  Don’t get me wrong, I still have their apps and browse through their new arrivals often (fine…daily!), but the following have become some of my go-tos if I want to look different, which is all the time.

And of course I wouldn’t share these websites with anyone but YOU. Having said that, I won’t reveal everything in one post…cause.. I still gotta look different. Hey we all have our issues… don’t judge 😉

Pixie Market – This is your go to for exaggerated shoulders and sleeves.

Front Row Shop  –  How do I put this? They know deconstructed and they know silhouettes, and most of all they know how to have fun with both.

Frankie Shop – So… it says high end when you open it up. It definitely LOOKS high end Gorgeous…isn’t that what we want? It’s called smart shopping.

& Other Stories – You’re going to enjoy yourself just browsing… that’s all I can say….besides clothing, the fun accessories and bags will make you hit that add to bag button pretty quick.

ASOS – I don’t know what you’re waiting for. If you haven’t been to ASOS…you have definitely  been living under a rock..get to it..PRONTO! Your party clothes are waiting.

You don’t have to spend a million bucks to look like it…ENOUGH SAID!

Hello Gorgeous,

Are you one of the insanely stylish? Do you have it in ya? Well, do ya?

Jokes aside. These women have certain habits that they will not tell you about, and WHY SHOULD THEY?  But I will (cause I’m your closet stylist 😉 ). I will let you in on a few of these secret habits that help them be the uber stylish women that they are.  

  1. Plan Plan Plan…  They plan their outfits days in advance(shoes and everything).They want to look stylish all the time. That means not having to rush. Some plan outfits for the entire week, others definitely the night before.
  2. They are not afraid of COLOR. These women know the importance of color and are confident enough to carry it off. Black is not their go-to! Shocker!!
  3. They dress for themselves not for others. They are not concerned with other people’s opinions of their sense of style. You have to be a bit of an égoïste (in a good way), if you know what I mean!
  4. They know that looking good is not about the price of something or the designer, but mixing and matching high end with affordable and fabulous brands. They are masters at mixing high-end labels with their local ones, and know how to spot a good deal.
  5. They are aware of what looks good on them and will not wear what is in the latest vogue in that exact ensemble just because ! They drive the trends in magazines and get Instagram’d.
  6. They experiment with different textures and find it utterly dull and boring playing it safe. No risk… No rewards!
  7. They don’t over accessorize and know that sometimes your outfit is the only accessory you need.
  8. They always take a last look at themselves before walking out the door, just to make sure 😉
  9. They are on a first name basis with their tailor. Who’s on your speed dial?
  10. They know that all they need to do each season is buy a few key pieces and since they are masters at putting it all together and can pretty much do it with their eyes closed..their fashion game is always on point.
  11. They know the names of all the affordable labels but will never tell. I won’t either…unless…unless the sun rises in the west or you become my bff . 😉
  12. They woke up like that! No gorgeous , they most certainly didn’t! It’s the HABITS they have cultivated that make the end result look effortless, yet still oh so stunning!

So we know you’re gorgeous… but are you UBER stylish? It’s never too late, adopt these habits. Make them a part of your life style and then…well then ..You’re pretty much THERE 🙂

Ain’t No Sunshine

Hello Gorgeous,

Alright..so this one is gonna be short and sweet… well maybe not sweet but short. Trust me, it’s hard getting into the groove when it’s so gloomy out. What a dark, rainy, washed out week it has been!

The last few days I have found it difficult to follow my own fashion advice! How can I when all the weather channels are pointing fingers at each other? This in-between phase is killing me. You?

Don’t you wish you hadn’t stashed away your jackets (like i did)? Don’t you wish you had just a little more than just your trench (like me)?. That’s what happens to us obsessive types who have to spring clean the day we gain an hour on the clock!

So… how do you dress for weather when it’s so fickle? What can we do/wear to look stylish and yet functional. A few smart decisions will go a long way.

 

Rain rain go away
Mama wants to go out and play
Her Jimmys (Choo) won’t do today
So her sneakers will  have to save the day

 

Here’s your OOTD (Outfit Of The Day..come on you knew that!)

Put on your jeans/leather leggings, they are a no brainer in this weather as they keep you warmish and don’t require any ironing! Throw on your favorite sweater (layer it on top of a collared shirt if you must). Grab your fancy sneakers (I know you’re worried that they’ll get  ruined..you can clean them gorgeous, plus you will most probably be Uber-ing it anyway!) and that hip umbrella. Please don’t walk around with the $5 umbrella, like the ones you leave behind in taxis on purpose because you don’t wanna be seen carrying them 😉 Why ruin a perfectly good outfit and have your umbrella kill it?   

The bag… you definitely don’t wanna ruin the bag. Enter MZ WALLACE. A staple for the NYC woman that is constantly on the move no matter the weather. These bags have a huge fan in me 🙂 This is the one time your not gonna mind having the same water resistant bag as the smart chic woman next to you. 

Your face: Red lips..DONE!

Your hair: Step away from that straightening iron..there is no point. Embrace your frizz and make it work for you.

How do you like me NOW ?

Its 50℉ and raining….but who cares..Im dressed for it.

A New York State Of Mind

Hello Gorgeous,

The BIG APPLE! A true NYC gal has a very distinct signature style. For anyone that has been here and has left with a style hangover…this one’s for you gorgeous! So what does she…the NYC gal, do to look so darn stylish all the darn time? What is it about her that makes her stand out in a crowd? She totally does and you know it 😉

You might not have a (212) phone number, but you can still look it gorgeous!  Here’s how:

NYC is a very walkable city, most times you will get to your destination faster on foot … not to mention that you’ll also fill your quota of 10,000 steps on your FitBit! The NYC girl has things to do and places to be, so her shoes not only have to look great but must be super comfy. Want to know what the cool sneakers are? Ask an your NYC gal pal! She knows, cause she probably has them all or has researched them to death.  

Beauty works from the inside out. Every NYC girls motto.

So, what will you find her sipping in the morning? A large green juice. What will she be wearing? The most stylish athleisure (from Lululemon to GAP). What bag will she be sporting? A roomy trendy ‘it’ tote that she will take to work and straight to drinks/dinner. Her hair will look immaculate of course, as she is the blowout queen. Her nails will be perfectly manicured. Try to find a real NYC gal with chipped nail polish, I dare you (fine, maybe on an off day)!  Her skin will look fabulous, but like she has barely any makeup on (don’t be fooled, she does). She has just mastered the art of the no make-up make-up (I woke up like this) look. She is a  pro… take my word for it.

She has her skincare routine down to a science and her dermatologist’s number on speed dial.

What staples does she have in her closet? Let’s take a peek.

  1. Her most beloved leather jacket
  2. A drawer full of super soft tees
  3. A faux-fur vest
  4. A pair of black (yes that specific) leather leggings
  5. Sunglasses in every fathomable shape
  6. Jeans in every wash and style
  7. Statement outerwear

What you will never see a real NYC gal wearing:

  1. A bandage dress
  2. A fanny pack
  3. A fleece jacket
  4. Stylish but uncomfortable shoes 

She oozes confidence and speaks her mind. See..its that easy. 😉 She is always and forever in a New York state of mind!

It’s good to be back…it’s been too long a break.RIDICULOUS.I know! But guess what, we have so many things to talk about and many ways to look fabulous this year that I think your going to have to book an entire day with me…as though that’s going to be enough!

Before I hit you with the heavy stuff, let’s get you your starter kit. The 10 things that I think you need to carry you through this year.  I’m going to give it to you in 2 doses. This one’s going to be about Fashion and Makeup(some of it..there are a lot more to look forward to). And I’ll follow it up with …you didn’t actually think i was going to give that away did you? Stay tuned.

Let’s do this: Here are the 10 things i think you should go out and get this year…Chop chop Gorgeous.

  1. Classic Cotton Button Down shirt. Various colors (size up). You can pair it with just about anything . I love wearing a classic poplin button down, sometimes collar down, if I’m feeling especially regal collar up; with a pair of blue jeans, trousers, or my favorite pleated skirt and a skinny belt. Throw a blazer on at work and a belt if need be and you are set. Everlane, Vince, Madewell are my Go To brands for shirts.
  2. Stripes…striped shirts, striped pants, striped dresses..I think you get my drift. They are everywhere and are are here to stay. Its on every kind of fabric – silks, cottons, chiffons…you name it ..gotta earn your stripes this year..pun intended.
  3. Stylish Activewear..sun up to sundown…no literally. Even if you haven’t really worked out. Sometimes you gotta fake it to make it. From the well known lululemon to carbon38 , the list of designers that are now doing Athleisure are endless. You have a wide variety of designs and price points to choose from. Now there is no excuse for not having an active lifestyle or pretending like you do 😉 and looking good at the same time.
  4. Sneakers. From the Gym -to- Coffee Run -to- Lunch -to- School pickup -to- Cocktails/dinner. Plain ones, striped ones, embellished ones…these have been around for a while and will continue to be around in 2017. Lets try and do away with our plain white sneakers for now, don’t throw your present ones away please, just store them for a bit, and venture into embellished or embroidered ones. Yes you can pair them with even a cocktail dress but this is where your confidence is key. Do you have it in you?  Of course you do. Gucci is doing some pretty awesome kicks.
  5. The Faithful Silk shirt. Effortlessly classy and timeless. Start of with a black and a  white; and if you love me..wait for it….a shade of PINK. Vince and Equipment do some very affordable ones.
  6. The Beauty Blender. Shaped like a teardrop, this sponge expands under water (which is how you should use it) will do for you what no brush can. Not only will it give you a flawless wash of color with your foundation and powder, but will also pick up excess product if you are heavy handed (I know i am when in a hurry). Once you have learnt how to use it, and it’s not rocket science, you won’t know what you did without me …I mean.. the beauty blender…thank me later :). Try the local Sephora near you or even  Amazon. This little gem has many uses which i will touch upon in a later post.
  7. CC Creams. I’m all about cc creams these days. CC  stands for “color correcting” and the products are meant to address issues like redness or sallowness. I use this during the day instead of foundation.. Its lighter, has almost a whipped texture and doesn’t feel like i have foundation on. While I’m out and about during the day  it feels more natural and I like my skin peaking through just a little bit, bonus.. it has SPF too.  My favorite right now is by it cosmetics Your Skin But Better™ CC+™ Cream with SPF 50. Haven’t heard of the brand have you?… that’s where I come in, Gorgeous . I will introduce you to brands that are have not only been around for a while but have been tried and tested by Yours Truely.
  8. Lip Balms & Exfoliators. Hydrate and exfoliate your lips please. We need to take good care of these babies as I have come to realize the importance of having well moisturized, un-chapped lips; especially when layering a lipstick on top.  Fresh has a host of different colors of lip balms and a delicious sugar lip scrub that contains pure brown sugar crystals, nourishing oils and Shea butter. A lot of the time I can get away with not wearing any lipstick when I use these lip balms. That’s how much pigment is in these bad boys.  
  9. The Beachwaver…think big voluminous Victoria Secret model runway waves. I can help you get the hair , the bodies..you are on your own Gorgeous . And to make it even better it’s barrel rotates automatically.  Its fabulous. Its easy.  It takes absolutely no effort what so ever. Your hairstylist is gonna have to work harder to impress you.
  10. THINK PINK. It’s going to be big. It’s going to be huge. It’s going to be my color of 2017. From NY Fashion week, London to Milan and finally at Paris – PINK reigned.
