A Face to face.

Hello Gorgeous!

I know it’s Halloween, so the next couple of days is the only time you can get away with bad make up.

You can wear a great outfit and carry the most delicious bag, but the wrong make-up can ruin everything.  The “package” is not complete with just an updated wardrobe; you need to put your best face forward. Why hide your face behind the wrong shade of foundation or slather on so much blush that you are mistaken for miss piggy!

While I’m sure you already do a great job with your make-up, here are a few tips/tricks that have worked well for me.

  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize – and some more!
  • Prime your face. It’s a must. Why? It minimizes pore size, smoothens fine lines, corrects uneven complexion and helps foundation adhere to your skin. Choose the one that is best suited for your skin type. I use Make Up Forever’s HD High Definiton primer and Laura Mercier’s (oil free).
  • Mess with the stress …My magic wand: Touche Eclat (Yves Saint Laurent). While it is NOT a concealer, it brightens up the area around your eyes. It is an illuminizing pen that YSL claims (and I concur) will give you a well-rested look – the kind you get after 8-hours of sleep. I can’t speak for everyone, but being a mother I can’t remember that last time I slept for 8 hours straight, so for me it’s definitely a must have!
  • To give your face a dewy angelic finish try mixing your liquid illuminator with your regular foundation and apply. I love VS Pro Radiant FX Face illuminator by Victoria’s Secret and the illuminating tinted moisturizer by Laura Mercier
  • Less is more: Play up only one feature at a time. Smokey eyes and a dark shade of lipstick? This will make you very popular at the Halloween day parade, but that’s not what we want.  If you’re going to play up your eyes, keep your lip color on the paler side and if your going for example, bright red on your lips please don’t go crazy with your black eyeliner/kohl pencil. Mascara, on the other hand is a must (lots of it).

Having said the above, too little is not enough. Down playing both your lips and eyes works only in magazines and that too requires airbrushing the image to death. A little color goes a long way.

What’s brewing? Betty & Veronica…
Until next week, stay classy and fabulous

Fall for me

Hello Gorgeous,

Thank you for your overwhelming support last week, please keep it coming. I have received a number of emails already (thanks again!) to cover certain topics – all fabulous suggestions – I will get to “ALL” of them. After all, Rome was not built in a day.

Since mid-season styling can be tricky, here are a few suggestions to help you get it together. While “the list” can be endless, I’d like mine to ‘hit the spot’ – like an espresso shot!

Clothing

Good to have:
•    Tie Neck Blouse
•    Faux Fur – waist up only unless you’re looking at boots.
•    Lace…and I don’t mean under garments
•    Floral Prints – either top or bottom – NOT BOTH!
•    Chunky knit sweater
•    Jewel/Spicy tones – Clothing, jewelry and accessories. Pairing all three requires a skillful eye, so don’t overdo it!
•    Colored Jeans
•    The Relaxed Pant
•    Maxi & Midi skirts
•    Red – Is red the new Black? NO – but it’s in this season and it’s going to be around for a while
•    Camel – We will always love camel

Great to have:
•    Leather skirt
•    Trouser Tux Look
•    High Slit Maxis
•    Python prints
•    Blush tones
•    Pink & Reds – paired together
•    Laminated jeans

Shoes

Good to have:
•    Platform Pumps – Sky is the limit. Trust me I’m 5′ 3″
•    Military inspired lace-up boots/booties. Wedge or otherwise

Accessories

Good to have:
•    Clean Cuff Bracelet – think gladiator
•    Bright Bags – and I don’t mean blinding

Great to have:
•    Exotic Skinned bags
•    Ladylike bags
•    Chokers
•    Grand Earrings

How do I put this look together?

Here are a couple of suggestions

  1. A tie neck blouse with a pair of wide leg pants or a midi skirt with a fitted blazer. You can even throw a faux fur vest over the tie neck blouse instead of the fitted blazer and top it off with a clean cuff. Don’t forget your bright bag!
  2. A jewel/spicy toned silk shirt with a pair of relaxed pants and your favorite statement belt.  Step into your platform pumps, put on your choker and you’re ready to go (anywhere)!

Pair the items above with pieces in your closet and play around with colors (We all love color blocking – but lets not get carried away).

I’d like to add, runways and magazines are full of head-to-toe prints and feathers. I personally am a fan of neither.

If you need help locating any of the items, please reach out to me via the blog/email.

What’s brewing? “Blush little baby don’t you cry, mama’s gonna bring you”

Until next week, stay classy and fabulous.

Hello Gorgeous!

It’s me.

Finally.

Up and running just like I promised.

After years of friends and family badgering me, I’ve decided to put my unsolicited styling skills and advice to good use with this blog.

I will talk about anything and everything that relates to Style.

I will focus on style, NOT fashion for it is ever changing.

I will NOT discuss dress size or weight for it is irrelevant and frankly darling at the end of the day the girl sitting next to you is as divine as you are.

I will rant on about a new product that everyone is buying that I think is a complete waste of money – or that I think you should go out and get pronto.

I will talk about clothes, accessories and sometimes makeup.

I recognized my true calling at an early age, sitting for hours on the floor of my mother’s powder room watching her in awe while she draped herself in the most beautiful chiffons and ran that blush-brush across her cheek in a way that would put Photoshop to shame. My years in New York City and the education I received at the Parsons School of Design further opened my mind to the limitless possibilities of how many heads a well-styled woman can turn.

So let’s get started ladies.

We have work to do and heads to turn.

Closet Check

Not everyone can update their closets every season with an entire range of new clothes, shoes, bags, nail colors, make-up etc. You DON’T HAVE to.

There are certain classic pieces that work all year round. Each season you should invest in one new piece of clothing, a new pair of shoes and a new bag. We can dress it up, dress it down and play with it to get you an “in season” wardrobe and look.

Must have pieces in your closet. Why not just the typical 10 like every other blog? Because we need more! Here we go…

  1. A classic button down white shirt
  2. 2 pairs of good fitting blue jeans (day & night), and no – one is not enough
  3. 1 animal print anything – could be an accessory or a piece of clothing (we never do animal print head to toe, that’s just a style violation)
  4. Soft second skin tees (slim or relaxed fit… doesn’t matter) to dress up or down
  5. An LBD (little black dress), to save the day or night
  6. A classic beige trench coat
  7. Basic black trousers
  8. A well fitted black blazer
  9. A scarf (printed or solid)
  10. A silk shirt (I love Equipment…Zara has very affordable ones too)
  11. A knee length black skirt, one that you can wear to work and hit the happy hour or go to a work dinner right after if need be.
  12. Comfortable day-to-night black pumps
  13. And, the most important – good fitting under garments. Because that can make or break your look

You will be receiving my “unasked” for advice every Monday morning 😉 …in the meantime stay classy and fabulous.

Stylishly yours,
